Compassion and competence as we support mental health care
February saw the first group of LeaderShift’s 2020 Mental Health First Aid Trainings - in Victoria, Courtenay, and Nanaimo. Many people shared positive feedback about their experience of the training, and we’re happy to share this note from Phil, who was part of the Feb 5 & 6th cohort in Victoria BC. Upcoming locations in March are Penticton, Winfiled, Kamloops and Revelstoke. Upcoming locations is April are Nelson, Kimberly and Vancouver. You can register via the Register Now button below.
Hi, Brenda. I wanted to do something a little beyond the evaluation at the event and so I thought I’d send you this note. I attended the “Mental Health First Aid” course last week at the Victoria venue. It was excellent. In my previous career as an RN who worked in Emergency departments, dealing with folk with acute or chronic mental illnesses was a regular feature of my work. What I discovered after entering into pastoral ministry was that this is also a regular feature of congregational life. While I like to think I have some competence in this area, I found this course to be an excellent refresher and update to current thinking in the field. This course is an excellent tool for anyone in congregational ministry, anyone who is offering frontline work with the public. Please convey both my appreciation to the LeaderShift leadership team for making this course available to us (at a reasonable price) as well as my encouragement to make it a regular offering. We had a number of our congregation take the program and all have reported most positively about the experience. If more courses are offered, I have a hunch more members of this congregation will take advantage of the opportunity to attend. Thanks!
Blessings
Phil
