Join us in the land of the Mayan people

This is not a trip in the usual sense. It is a pilgrimage — an invitation to step out of our familiar rhythms and into a deeper way of seeing. Together, we will travel with World Pilgrim and Executive Minister Treena Duncan into the heart of Guatemala, not as visitors, but as learners and companions, open to being shaped by the people, the land, and the stories we encounter.

Pilgrimage asks something of us. It invites us to listen more than speak, to notice what we might otherwise overlook, and to receive new perspectives that can gently — and sometimes profoundly — change how we understand our own world. Through relationships with local communities, we will engage with the lived realities of the original Mayan peoples , whose histories of resilience, faith, and resistance continue to shape this land.

An important part of our journey will be experiencing Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a deeply spiritual and communal practice that invites reflection on memory, loss, gratitude, and the enduring bonds between the living and those who have gone before. Participating in this sacred time offers a powerful way to explore how different cultures hold grief, honour ancestors, and understand life, death, and hope.

Along the way, we will also experience the beauty and creativity of Guatemala: its artisans, its culture, its landscapes, and its deep spiritual traditions. This journey holds both joy and challenge — moments of connection and wonder, and moments that invite reflection, humility, and growth.

This pilgrimage is offered especially to leaders in Chinook Winds and Pacific Mountain Regions who are longing for learning that is embodied, relational, and rooted in justice. It is a chance to be changed — and to return home with a wider lens, a deeper faith, and a renewed sense of what it means to walk together in God’s world.
