Your Hosts

Broad View United Church in the Cadboro Bay neighbourhood of Greater Victoria and St Andrew’s-Wesley United Church in downtown Vancouver are each hosting a book launch for ‘Undivided Love’! Join them!

Whether attending on Tuesday September 13 at St. Andrew’s-Wesley or Thursday September 15 at Broad View United, you can expect a comfortable, informal setting with wheel chair access, a reading from by Janet Gear, light refreshments and engaging conversation!

We love these words from Janet’s publisher, Friesen Press:

Undivided Love is a book about faith: how it is expressed and what it communicates. Janet Gear offers readers a sympathetic way to interpret the belief-inspired actions of those around them without assuming homogeneous understandings of God, the church, and our place in the world. Recognizing the pastoral and strategic challenges provoked by conflicting understandings of what the church is for, Gear guides leaders in the artistry of handling shadows and strengths coexisting across five streams of lived faith: evangelical, ecclesial, missional, ecumenical, and spiritual.

Ultimately, Undivided Love empowers congregations to navigate the terrain of theological diversity shared by their community of faith, to nurture its various longings and receive its unique gifts, and to ultimately address the deeper question: What are we called to do?

A new community within LeaderSHIFT's Church Planting network, Feast & Fallow Cafe is a social enterprise that's connecting people to their food and to each other. Co-located with Oakridge United Church, Feast & Fallow Cafe bakes bread, serves coffee, educates, and honours food security as a Christian value - and they want us all to come celebrate with their opening!

"Feast and Fallow is a Christian social enterprise. At the core of the historical Christian witness, is the celebration of the earth, human connection and community, and the sharing of food (communion is one such example). In recognition of this core Christian value and practice, some congregations are now choosing to focus on the role that food plays as both a humanizing and isolation reducing mechanism in our society. However, the issues around food are larger and transcend the social sphere. Take for instance how our food systems are exploited and extended in unsustainable ways. Many Christians, therefore, also share in the conviction that the Christian Church should raise its voice in advocacy for regenerative, sustainable, organic, holistic, and just food systems." - FeastAndFallow.ca/our-vision
